Cassie & Scott: We’re Expecting! An Oatlands Plantation Baby Announcement

Blair-13I was *beyond* excited when Cassie reached out to me to let me know that she and her wonderful hubby, Scott, were expecting a new addition to their family and wanted to do photos to announce the pregnancy and gender to their friends and family. And I was bonus excited when Cassie told me she had gotten baby Chuck Taylor‘s to bring as well. Can you get any cuter than that?!

The greenhouse and grounds of Oatlands Plantation was the perfect place to shoot. I had actually never been to this location before, but it quickly became a favorite. The greenhouse was cute and perfect, and even without flowers in bloom yet, the gardens on the grounds were still great to walk through. I hope to find my way back here again soon.

But enough of that! On to the pictures, which is why you’re really here anyway, right? Congrats again, Cassie and Scott, and I can’t wait to see your little one rocking those Chucks!

Cara: Old Town Alexandria Maternity Session

You may remember Cara and Mark from their Old Town engagement session a couple summers ago. They were so much fun to spend the day with, so I was beyond excited when Cara reached out to me and said they wanted to get together for another shoot – because they were going to be parents!! So it was back to Old Town with Cara and Mark, and this time we added in their chocolate lab Hercules, who was looking forward to being a big brother and hoping his new sibling is as entranced by squirrels as he is.

The day we met up with SO COLD. I have to give major props to Cara and Mark for being real troopers and sacrificing the warmth of their coats for a few shots. It’s also a good thing we got these photos done when we did, because their daughter made her debut just over a week later!

Cara and Mark, thanks for letting me be a part of another momentous event in your life. I look forward to meeting your expanded family!

I love Herc’s adorable bow tie! He will be a dapper big brother for sure!

Cutest. T-shirt. Ever.

I loved this so much – Cara got an engraved spoon from Etsy and served dessert one night with the spoon, to tell Mark “You’re going to be a Daddy”!

Stacey: An Oglebay Park, WV Maternity Session

Given that Stacey and Frank’s little girl will be making her much-awaited arrival in October…and given that October is only a few short days away (how did that happen?!), it is more than time for me to get this posted on the blog! Just after I got back from vacation in August, I headed to West Virginia to visit with Stacey and Frank. Before dinner and yummy cupcakes at Avenue Eats, we headed up to Oglebay Park for their maternity session. Oglebay is a gorgeous place – flowers and fountains abound! – and particularly special for these two, as it’s also where they got married!

Stacey, I’m so happy I was able to do this session for you. It was great to spend time with you and Frank, and I look forward to meeting your little one!

Untitled-2Stacey, you are a gorgeous mama-to-be! Your princess is going to be one special girl.

Jhonna & Ryan: Cherry Blossom Maternity Session

I LOVE the idea of maternity shoots. I know some people are sort of weirded out by the whole concept. And I get it. To some people, pregnancy is an intensely private thing, understandably. But I really like the idea of a woman wanting to capture this experience in her life, and I think the old adage is true – pregnant women have this gorgeous, amazing glow about them, and it’s wonderful to have the chance to capture that in photographs.

Jhonna and Ryan are friends of mine from work. They are hands-down one of the most fun couples that I know, and I think they are going to be outstanding parents. They just have so much love and joy about them, and their little girl is going to be one lucky kiddo.

Our original plan was to head down to the Tidal Basin and do photos with the cherry blossom trees. But because of all the weird weather this winter and early spring, the cherry blossoms passed their peak long before we were able to get into DC and they were looking rather sickly. Fortunately, we did find some gorgeous pink trees in East Potomac Park, and then wandered around the Jefferson and Tidal Basin for some more photos. We stopped by some really vibrant tulip beds and then finished up the WWII Memorial. Jhonna gets major points for being willing to do so much walking!

They had their baby shower over this weekend, and I was so excited to arrive and see one of the photos from our session on their cake! I feel so famous :)

They’re due this summer, and I can’t wait to meet their little girl and show off some photos from her newborn session! (And also a few other favorites from this maternity session – that I can’t share just yet, lest I give away too much!)

Congrats to you both – thank you for letting me be a part of this exciting journey!!
